What is Faith?

Webster’s dictionary defines faith as a firm belief in something for which there is no proof and as “a belief and trust in and loyalty to God.” The Bible says it is the hope of things not yet seen and that God gives everyone a measure of faith. It is the positive belief that everything will turn out for the best, even when things seem hopeless.

We all have some faith, whether we realize it or not. We have faith that our car will start, that the sun will come up every morning, that the chair we are sitting on will hold us, that the plane will land and arrive safely. Yes, we all have faith, albeit in different degrees.

My question is what are you putting your faith in today? Your job? Your 401k? Your relationships? Your home ? Your health?

Well guess what? All of these things can be taken from us in the blink of an eye. Just look at all the people who have lost homes, families, possessions from floods, hurricanes, economic downturn and war.

What then do we have left to hold on to?

Something that can never be taken away or destroyed. Something that is constant, faithful, and trustworthy in every circumstance. Someone.

That someone is our lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Now I know that might be a stretch for some of you, but that's why this blog is entitled "Journey to Faith". We are all on a journey and it is a journey to know God. You can call him whatever you wish. That's not the point here. The point is about faith - learning to walk by faith and not by sight. If you want to put it in today's terms - you can say learning the law of attraction. But I'll talk about that another time.

However you want to define it, one thing I know--I can’t live without my God and my Lord. What about you? You have nothing to lose, but everything to gain. When you've tried it all, try God. He is "the real thing"!
